BELLEFONTE – Despite the rainy and soggy weather, the Bellefonte softball team was able to complete their O’Leary Memorial Softball tournament without any early delays.

Unfortunately, that could not be said about the second game as Mother Nature ended the tournament prematurely leaving no final games.

In the first game, the Lady Raiders went up against DuBois in the opener.

Offensively, Bellefonte was led by Madison Melius who went 2-for-3 on the morning.

It was a defensive battle throughout as the two team’s went into the final stanza tied at one.

“We’ve been have a case of at-them balls. They come off the bat and it sounds like they are hit hard but it’s right to them and the fielder doesn’t have to move,” said Bellefonte coach Beth Devlin. “But we’ll bounce back. They’re disappointed. I’m disappointed. But I’m really happy with the defense and Carly Clarkson pitched a good game.”

But the Beavers picked up two runs in the seventh and held on in the bottom of the inning to take the contest, putting them in the championship game against Central Mountain.

DuBois wasted little time getting on the scoreboard.

With one out in the first, Hailey Reed reached on a walk.

Her time on base was short as teammate Morgan Pasternick tripled, scoring Reed.

Bellefonte battled back to tie things in the third.

With two outs, Melius kept the inning alive with a walk. She moved up to second on a steal and then reached third and home on wild pitches, tying it at one.

From there it would be strong defensive efforts by both teams, keeping things tied until the top of the seventh.

Kierra Narehood led off the inning with a rope back the middle. She advanced on a wild pitch. She then scored on a Bellefonte miscue, taking the lead once again.

Later on with two outs, Gabby Gulreys singled in a runner, upping the lead to 3-1.

Bellefonte was not able to muster up runs in the bottom of the inning, giving the Beavers the 3-1 victory.

Central Mountain took only six innings to defeat a previous 7-1 Forrest Hills team 10-0.

Picking up the win for Central Mountain was Allison Lininger got The hurler tossed a two-hit shut out over the six inning contest. She finished with seven strike outs .

The Wildcats got home runs from

Sophie Mitchell Katelyn Bowman and Harley Kunes.

Central Mountain pounded out ten hits.  Picking up multiple hits for the Wildcats were Madisyn Wian, Lininger, Bowman, and Mitchell.
