Bellefonte outlasts Huntingdon in Mountain League showdown

BELLEFONTE – A spectacular super senior send off.

Despite Mother Nature trying to spoil Bellefonte’ s baseballs Senior night against Mountain League foe Huntingdon Tuesday.

The Red Raiders honored Dom Capperella, Alex Ebeling, Nate Fisher, Nash Irwin, Kenny Squires and Caleb Stock.

Capperella was strong on the mound, going the distance, striking out 10 and allowed one earned run.

He picked up the win 4-2 after a 3- run fifth inning.

“The conditions were tough but they were tough for both teams. We talk about our pitchers throwing strikes. That’s the start of being successful,” said Bellefonte coach Jon Clark. “Dom threw 66 percent of strikes today. That gives you a chance.”

Lead off hitter, Trevor Johnson found himself on the base paths numerous times, scoring twice. Johnson walked three times.

Bellefonte made their hits count en route to the win.

Huntingdon had two players with multiple hits. Will Wallen went 2-for-3 while teammate Jack Foster went 2-for-3.

In the first inning, the Red Raiders scored first.

Bellefonte’s Johnson started the Red Raiders first at bat with a walk.

He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Peyton Vancas. Johnson stole third, setting the scene for teammate Triston Heckman. Heckman did not disappoint as he singled in Johnson on a slapped to right field, making it a 1-0 contest.

Huntingdon tied the contest in the fourth.

Foster starting things off with a single into left field.

Ryan Marshall followed with a single of his own, putting runners on first and second. Gavin Woodward bounced into an RBI fielders choice, tying the game at one.

The Bearcats s ores again in the fourth on a Bellefonte miscue, making it a 2-1 contest.

In the fifth, things started rolling along for the Red Raiders.

With one out, Josh Brown walked. He was followed by a walk by Johnson. Brown in relieved on the base paths by pinch runner Felix Oquendo. He would later score on a Peyton Vancas single, tying things at two.

Johnson later scored on a balk call.

Vancas scored on a steal home for the last run of the contest.
