Bellefonte baseball has home opener spoiled by Williamsport

BELLEFONTE – The show must go on.

Battling through cold temperatures and sleet, snow and rainy conditions, the Bellefonte Red Raiders got their season off and running Saturday as they battled Williamsport.

In a non-conference battle, the Millionaires took the contest 11-6.

Errors proved to be the Red Raiders Achilles heel on the afternoon committing five in the contest.

Williamsport roped seven hits in the victory while having one error.

Bellefonte was able to post six hits in the loss.

Braedyn Kormanic was the leading hitter on the day, post two. He finished with two doubles and two runs scored.

Trevor Johnson post a 3-RBI effort while teammate Alex Ebeling finished with two.

Williamsport played the first run of the ball game in the top of the second.

The Millionaires defense kept the Red Raiders at bay through the fifth while notching a 4-run inning in the fourth.

Trailing 5-0, Bellefonte rallied for a 4-run fifth inning.

Kenny Squires singled on a line drive into center to start things off.

Kormanic doubled on a line drive to left to allow Squires to advanced to third.

The Millionaires walked Derek Fravel intentionally walked while Squires remained at third and Kormanic moved up to second.

Ebeling belted a sacrifice fly to center field scoring Squires . and Kormanic. Fravel advanced to third  on the throw.

Johnson gave the home crowd something to cheer for as he blasted a homer over the right field fence, cutting things to a one-run contest.

But the celebration would be short lived as the pesky Millionaires rallied to post a 4-run inning of their own, extending the lead to 9-4.

Williamsport would contain the momentum to its side, adding two in the top of the seventh.

Bellefonte refused to go away without a fight as it posted two in the bottom of the seventh.

But it wasn’t quite enough to get the win, falling 11-6.
