BELLEFONTE – Sending out the season with a Bang!

In its regular season finale, the Bellefonte boys soccer team made the most of its last game of the season in their game against Williamsport in a non-league battle Thursday night.

After two first half goals, the Millionaires responded with two in the second half, forcing overtime.

After playing a double overtime contest, the Red Raiders finished with a 2-2 tie.

“They played well. Eli (Davis) had some beautiful saves especially at the end,” said Bellefonte coach Scott Martz. “We were up 2-0 and I thought we were coasting. Then they had two beautiful runs on us and we just lost coming in on us. They put those two in but then we held.”

Bellefonte goalie Eli Davis was very active in the fourth and fifth period contest, topping out with 16 saves.

Early on, the Red Raiders were led by two first half goals by Andy Gerasenko setting the stage for the  victory.

In the first, the Millionaires and Red Raiders went at it back-and-forth early on.

Bellefonte goalie Eli Davis was aggressive and was able to stop Williamsport in their tracks.

Davis was tested in the first minute when Tarell Brown got loose with the ball down the middle. As he set up to shoot, Davis slid and blocked it with his leg, sending the ball out and keeping the Millionaires to hit early pay dirt.

Brown also led the momentum for Williamsport who came in with a 7-7-1 record.

Bellefonte also had some strong runs early but Williamsport goalie Max Fink was also as tough in the box.

It took a little for the Red Raiders to kick their game clicking early on.

However, that all changed when Andy Gerasenko pushed the ball up and snuck it by Fink at 32:39.

Near misses were common for the Millionaires as each of their eight shots were wide or was saved by motivated catches by Davis.

Gerasenko had a chance at a penalty kick after being tackled in the opponents box. However, his shot slid just wide, keeping the lead at one.

With the first half winding down, the Res Raiders added to its lead.

This time Gerasenko stole the ball from a defensive back and pushed it home. The goal was at 7:42, moving Gerasenko one goal closer to a hat trick.

However, the Millionaires defense stood strong and would not let another goal pass by them.

In the second half, Williamsport put the pressure on the Red Raiders defense.

The visitors finally got on the board at 28:11 when Brayden Brungard, was able to slip an unassisted shot into the corner of the Bellefonte goal, cutting the lead to 2-1.

Less than three minutes later, the Millionaires found gold on a cross from Tarell Brown to Isaac Balza, knotting the game at two.

The Bellefonte defense was tested early and often in both overtime periods but the Red Raiders came out with flying colors.

Bellefonte is back in action Saturday as they play in the LHAC championship.
