Badger brings home the hardware at Western Nationals

Delaney Badger, a rising senior at Bellefonte Area High School, brought home top honors from the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) Western National Finals held in Fort Worth, Texas on June 22-23, 2025. Competing at the renowned Will Rogers Equestrian Center in conjunction the American Paint Horse Association World Championship Show.

On June 22, Delaney showcased exceptional horsemanship earning Reserve Champion (second place) finish in the Individual Varsity Intermediate Horsemanship class. Her success continued the following day, June 23, where she secured fourth place in the same event during the Team competition contributing significantly to the Grier School Western Equestrian Upper School Team’s third-place overall finish.

Delaney, the daughter of Daniel and Resa Badger of Bellefonte, exemplifies dedication both in and out of the arena. She’s a valued member of the National Honor Society and the Bellefonte Area High School Lady Raiders Soccer team. Her equestrian journey began in 2017 at Eagle Valley Equestrian Center, where she now trains as a community rider for the Grier School Western Equestrian team under the expert guidance of trainer Chris McElyea. She officially joined the Grier School Western Equestrian team in fall 2019.

IEA is a national non-profit organization dedicated to introducing and promoting lifelong involvement in equestrian athletics. IEA utilizes a unique draw-based competition format whereby riders are not required to own their own horse or riding tack to participate – providing greater affordability and access to the sport. IEA has nearly 15,000 members across the United States riding and coaching 3 disciplines – Western, Hunt Seat and Dressage. Riders in grades 4 – 12 and all experience levels from Beginner Walk-Trot to Varsity Open can participate. The show season runs August – June.
