The Juniata Cross Country team traveled to Lehigh University on Friday, September 30 for the prestigious Paul Short Cross County Invitational.
The boys team competed in the high school brown race (AAA).  Logan Strawser ran to a 4th place finish with a time of 15:00.4 for a new school record.  The old record was held by Garrett Baublitz from 2019 when he ran 15:21 at the same invitational.  The next runner to come in for the Indians was sophomore Wyatt Stroup in 75th place with a time of 16:26.5.  Sophomore Joey Bomberger came in shortly after in 84th place with a time of 16:30.6.  Sophomore Wesley Ehrisman placed 221st with a time of 17:22.6.  Freshman Levi Zeiders rounded out the scoring for the Indians with his 233rd place finish and a time of 17:30.3.  Senior Brady Roe placed 336th with a time of 18:18.5 and Ricky Guante placed 383rd with a time of 18:46.2.  The boys team placed 18th out of 44 team in the brown race.  495 runners competed in the race.  Juniata Coach Jeff Miller said “We came here to run fast times and that’s exactly what we accomplished.  I purposely entered the boys in the faster AAA race just for this reason.  We could have placed 3rd as a team in the other AA race, but that wasn’t our main goal today.  Logan battled up front again with some of the best runners in the state.  We just need to work on his last mile.  He was with the top 3 at two miles, but struggled with the fast last mile.  We have 5 weeks to work on this so we have time to get him stronger.  It was awesome to see Joey and Wyatt run under 17:00 for the first time.  Wesley and Levi ran exceptionally well and ran under 17:30 for the first time.  Brady and Ricky ran solid races with personal best.  This was the first time since I’ve been coaching where I had every runner set personal best in the same race.  It was a very exciting day for all of us.”
In the girls white race, sophomore Jessie Bomberger led the Indians with her 146th place finish with a time of 22:11.4.  Junior Haley Mummah ran a time of 25:00.1 for 298th place.  Nia Matthews place 316th with a time of 25:43.7 and Junior Aspen Eby ran a time of 26:56.5 for 335th place.  370 runners competed in the girls white race.  The Indians were one runner shy of being able to compete in the team classification.  Juniata Coach Jeff Miller said “It was awesome to see all four of our girls run personal best today.  It shows that all the hard work is paying off.  Just like the boys, I never had all of my runners set their best times in the same race.  The weather was perfect for racing, but usually someone has a bad day.  It was not the case today.  Everyone came away from this invitational feeling very happy.”
