WINGATE – After a tough loss to the MIfflin County Huskies last season in the regular season finale, the Lady Eagles returned the favor this season topping a young and scrappy Huskies team in softball action.
Sierra Albright started the game on the mound for Bald Eagle Area as she faced off against Mifflin County‘s Piper Specht.
Albright came out victorious on this night posting a one-hit 6-0 win against the Lady Huskies. For Albright it was her 75th career victory as she struck out 12.
“She (Albright)pitched well and Eckert is a heck of a catcher behind the dish there,” said Bald Eagle Area coach Don Lucas. “There were just a lot of things that helped out. So we are ready to start the second season.”
Highlighting the night was an Alexa Baney 2-run homerun in the first.
Mifflin County went down 1-2-3 in the top of the first. In the bottom of the first Baney, hit a two-run homer scoring Kailey Eckert, who was on second at the time.
Thompson followed with a walk
Raelee Repasky delivered a double putting runners on second and third with one out.
Malee Yoder’s 2 RBI single to center put the Eagles up 4-0 still early in the first.
Albright helped their own cause taking a walk putting runners on first and second but was stranded as the Huskies finished off the inning.
When the inning concluded the Lady Eagles pounded out four runs on four hits.
Both teams went scoreless in the second inning.
In the first three innings, Ava Baker’s walk was the lone runner that reached base for Mifflin County.
In the third, the Eagles had a runner on as Repasky walked. She moved to second on a wild pitch. But again, the MIfflin County defense was able to get Repasky in a rundown as she was trying to score from second on a grounder by Albright, keeping it as a 4-0 contest.
Halfway through the contest, Albright was sailing through the Huskies batting order keeping her no-hit bid alive.
Eckert tried some two-out lightning as she beat out a bunt. She stole second and then advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Baney put runners on the corners as she reached on a walk setting the stage for Addyson Burns. Burns showed patience at the plate going ahead of the count 2-0.
With the count at 3-1, Burns roped an RBI single back the middle. But that would be all the Lady Eagles would muster as the Huskies closed the door on the inning.
Repasky led off the fifth with a double to deep centerfield.
Taylor Habovick brought in Repasky as she hit a sizzling grounder to right field.
Going into the sixth, Bald Eagle Area extended its lead to 6-0.
The drama continued in the top of the seventh as Albright was just three outs away from another no-hit bid.
Jalee Bodtorf ended the no-hit bid as she hit a shot to deep centerfield that hit off the top of the fence for the stand up double.
Bald Eagle Area ended its regular season record at 13-2 while the Huskies fell to 6-13 on the year.
