It was a night that the MIfflin County Huskies won’t soon forget. Thursday they went up against a very tough Altoona squad with the right to move onto the District 6 Championship game against State College.
It would be a pitcher’s duel throughout as both teams were strong on the bump.
It would be the “Purple and Black Attack” that would come out victorious in a Mifflin County 3-2 victory over the Mountain Lions.
Mifflin County sent one of its aces out in Grady Hoppel. Hoppel started the game for and was able to record 19 outs.
The Huskies got on the scoreboard first scoring first in the top of the second inning. Leading the run was Logan Alexander as he started off with a single down the right field line. Teammate Easton Lepley grounded out, but both were able to bring in a run.
Hoppel led things off on the mound for Mifflin County. The pitcher surrendered seven hits and one run over six and one-third innings, striking out five and walking one. Ryan McConnell led things off on the bump for Altoona. The Mountain Lion hurler scattered only three hits and two runs over one and one-third innings, striking out one and walking one.
Aidan Arnold picked up the clutch save for the Huskies.
Alexander, Lepley, and Evan Strohecker each drove in one run for Mifflin County on the night. Jayden Smith went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Huskies in hits. Defensively, Mifflin County turned one double play in the game. The Huskies were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error.
Altoona amounted nine hits in the game. Gavin Albright led Altoona with two hits in four at bats. Joseph Speece and Tanner Stroup each drove in one run for Altoona. The Mountain Lions turned one double play in the game.
