The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has rolled out its list of inductors and performers for the 2021 induction ceremony later this month. The 36th annual Induction Ceremony is set for October 30th at Cleveland’s Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse and will be simulcast on SiriusXM and air at a later date on HBO.
The ceremony honors this year’s Inductees: Tina Turner, Carole King, the Go-Go’s, Jay-Z, Foo Fighters, and Todd Rundgren in the Performer category, along with Kraftwerk, Charley Patton and Gil Scott-Heron for Early Influence, LL Cool J, Billy Preston and Randy Rhoads for Musical Excellence, and Clarence Avant for the Ahmet Ertegun Award.
The initial lineup of 2021 inductors and performers are:
Paul McCartney inducting Foo Fighters
Angela Bassett inducting Tina Turner, with performances by Christina Aguilera, Mickey Guyton, H.E.R., and Bryan Adams
Taylor Swift inducting Carole King, with performances by Taylor Swift and Jennifer Hudson
Drew Barrymore inducting the Go-Go’s
Lionel Richie inducting Clarence Avant for the Ahmet Ertegun Award

- The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation was created in 1983. Artists become eligible to enter the Hall 25 years after the release of their debut single.
- The official Rock Hall and Museum opened on September 2nd, 1995 in a building designed by I. M. Pei. The city of Cleveland was chosen after successfully lobbying that “rock and roll” had started with Alan Freed, a Cleveland native who first took to the airwaves in the city.

- It was 35 years ago (January 23rd, 1986) this year that the inaugural class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame were inducted in a ceremony held at New York City’s Waldorf-Astoria.
- The first class of the Hall of Fame featured rock’s forefathers: Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Fats Domino, Buddy Holly, the Everly Brothers, Ray Charles, James Brown, Sam Cooke, and Jerry Lee Lewis.
- Included in the Non-Performer category were Sun Records founder Sam Phillips and seminal disc jockey Alan Freed, whom many credit for actually coining the phrase “Rock And Roll.”
