LEWISTOWN – Battling to the end.
The Mifflin County girls soccer team welcomed in the Gettysburg Warriors for an evening matchup just before sun down at Donald Chapman Stadium.
It would be a close contest but in the end after the buzzer sounded, the Lady Huskies fell 2-0.
The Warriors drew first blood on a goal from Allison Scheungrab to give Gettysburg an early 1-0 advantage over the Huskies.
Mifflin County would play from behind early and often but still felt like they were in the game only trailing the Warriors 1-0 at the half.
When it came to shots on goal Mifflin County were limited in part of the Warriors great defense. With a couple minutes remaining in the first half Mackenzie Peachy made a crossover pass to Abigail Anderson for a shot on goal but came up short to keep the advantage with Gettysburg.
“Gettysburg is a really good team and we just have to start pressing together,” said Mifflin County coach Barrett Knepp. “
Mifflin County showed grit on the defensive end. Mifflin County goalie Liberty Cook made some key saves despite the loss in a game where there were a lot of shots on goal with a lot of good saves by Cook. The Huskies would give up another goal late on a play where Cook made the great save but was late getting to the goal. The next time as Simone Shelton would cash it in to lead 2-0 that would be all the Warriors would need to get the win over the Huskies.
Mifflin County will host State College on Saturday hoping for better fortunes.
