The Juniata Junior High cross country teams traveled to Hughesville on Tuesday, September 2nd to compete against Hughesville, Muncy, Lewisburg, Shikellamy, and Warrior run.  The boys competed first for the day on the 3k cross country course.  Seventh grader Evan Yackey led the Indians with a 4th place finish in a time of 11:07.8.   Shortly after 8th grader Matthew Corman finished in 14th place with a time of 12:15.9. Eighth grader Elliott Miller finished in 19th place with a time of 12:28.0.  Seventh grader Landon Miller was shortly behind finishing in 21st place with a time of 12:31.6.  Eighth grader Andy Rutherford rounded out the scoring for the Indians with a 45th place finish in a time of 14:30.5.  Other Indian finishers are listed below:

8th grade – Alex Copenheaver – 46th place – 14:31.9

7th grade – Austin Phillips – 49th place – 14:46.4

7th grade – Mason Hardin – 57th place – 17:55.5

The boys took wins over Muncy (15 – 49) and Warrior Run (19 – 38).  They took loses over Hughesville (27 – 30), Lewisburg (18 – 45), and Shikellamy (26 – 29)

Juniata Coach Miller said “The boys ran competitively today after just competing at the Big Valley Invitational on Saturday.  Many of them were still feeling that race.  We need to work on getting our 5th runner to move up.  The talent is there.”

In the girls Junior High 3k race, 8th grader Moira Doydora led the Indians with a 10th place finish in a time of 13:29.9.  Eighth grader Sophia Laub came in next with a 24th place finish in a time of 14:47.7. Eighth grader Claire Ciarrocchi wasn’t far behind finishing in 27th place with a time of 15:04.7.  Eighth grader Aubrey Fogle finished in 28th place with a time of 15:07.9.  Eighth grader Juliet Heindenreich rounded out the scoring with a 29th place finish in a time of 15:08.4.  Other Indian finishers are listed below:

The girls took wins over  Hughesville (23 – 32), Muncy (15 – 50) and Warrior Run (15 – 38).  They took loses over Lewisburg (15 – 48), and Shikellamy (17 – 42)

Juniata Coach Miller said “Like the boys, the girls were still feeling BVI from Saturday, but still came out and ran their best today.  Moira ran tough again today.  It’s obvious she put in the work this summer.  The girls team is loaded with talent.  They just need to learn from each race and gain confidence in themselves.”

The Junior High teams will be competing at Newport on Tuesday, September 9 along with the high school teams.
