MILROY –  The Mifflin County 14-year old all-stars closed out the night hoping to pull off the sweep of a double header on Saturday against a struggling Roxborough team.

Barbara Mowery was honored before tonight’s game as she was inducted into the Babe Ruth Hall of Fame.

Mowery is known for her dedication to Babe Ruth and planning for these events.

The Rebels were led by strong pitching from star hurler David Cuphak going the distance helping Roxborough over Mifflin County holding MIfflin County to a pair of hits in the 3-2 win.

Vinnie Rizzo notched a double during his first at bat Jake Vukas and Gavin Humphries had the two other hits in the teams 3-2 win.

Mifflin County had strong pitching early from Max Tawitz he thew three strong innings allowing just one hit it was up to the bullpen to do the rest Chase Krepps would throw 19 pitches Mifflin County’s Cohen Leister would take it the rest of the way in a strong pitching performance striking out the side. Leister would also single but Mifflin County would leave him stranded on base coming up empty.

Karter Kanagy had one of the two hits in the game, Leister had the other hit.

“Well he might’ve been the best pitcher we’ve seen so far in the tournament and we just have to come back and play our game,” said Mifflin County coach Denny Yetter.  You know its tough to play two and win two games in a day. You look at history in double headers its tough to sweep them and i don’t care if it’s against the same team or whatever. Its just tough to sweep. I thought the kids they knew what they had to do l. We had to keep them under a 10-run differential and we’re doing that. We also set pitching up for tomorrow so that everyone was available.  So I mean we did okay and I’m happy with the way the kids played and we just come back tomorrow and we have some more fun.”

Mifflin County will play in the semi final game tomorrow against West End in a win or your done game. The winner of the semi final game will play Westfield at 7:00 pm Sunday night in the championship game for a chance to play in Arkansas for the Nationals.
