Karl Shirey collected three hits in four at bats, as Mifflin County 15/16’s defeated PGC 14-9 on Thursday. Shirey tripled in the seventh inning, singled in the third inning, and singled in the first inning.
A fielder’s choice by Wyatt Parkes put Mifflin County on the board in the top of the first.
Mifflin County added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Luke Shawver singled to center field, Liam Shaffer grounded into a fielder’s choice, and Shirey hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.
PGC tied the game in the bottom of the second thanks to a double by Caiden Bell, and an error.
Mifflin County flipped the game on its head in the top of the third, scoring five runs on five hits to take the lead, 9-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Jaren Kenny that drove in one.
PGC scored one run in the bottom of the seventh on a solo home run to left field by Kaden Brown.
Bo Benny pitched four innings in relief for Mifflin County 15/16. The hurler gave up four hits and one run while, striking out one and walking one. Shirey led things off on the mound for Mifflin County. The starting pitcher surrendered one hit and four runs (zero earned) over one and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking one. Jeremias Velez stepped on the mound first for PGC . The pitcher gave up seven hits and eight runs (four earned) over two and two-thirds innings, striking out none and walking none.
Mifflin County tallied 13 hits in the game. Shirey and Shawver each collected three hits for Mifflin County. Jude Zook, Benny, and Jake Knable each collected multiple hits for Mifflin County . Mifflin County stole six bases in the game. Mifflin County turned two double plays in the game.
Bell led PGC with two runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The left fielder went 2-for-2 on the day. Joshua Meyers and Bell each collected two hits for PGC. Jonathan Sanchez led PGC with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing seven walks for the game. Velez stole two bases.
