MILROY – Despite committing seven errors, the Foxpro Predators battled their way back to defeat the Spring Mills Braves by the final score of 9-8 in game number two of their double header Sunday afternoon.
The errors showed themselves to Foxpro during the top half of the first inning and the Braves took advantage of them scoring four runs.
However, the Predators answered in the bottom half of the frame where Isaiah Kearns launched a three run home run over the left field fence to cut the lead down to 4-3.
Spring Mills added two more runs in the top of the second thanks to both Bradley Masser and Mason Greene.
But again, Foxpro responded in the bottom half of the inning with four runs of their own with three of those runs coming off a three run blast by Jaxson Pupo that landed right on the roof of the press box at centerfield to make it a 7-6 lead.
The Braves eventually took back the lead in the top of the fifth inning where they scored two runs thanks to a single from Alec Lose which brought in Greene. And then Miles Brooks took home plate while Lose was stealing second.
With the score now at 8-7, Foxpro slowly worked their way back starting with the bottom half of the fifth where Evan Pupo hit a single to right scoring Kearns to tie the game at eight apiece.
But then in the bottom of the sixth, the Predators as Kearns hit a two out single to left bringing home Tucker Triebold to make it a 9-8 ball game.
Jaxson Pupo then looked to get the save for Foxpro in the top of the seventh, only to have the bases loaded with one out which forced the Predators to make the switch and bring in Kearns who managed to get the next two batters out swinging to secure the victory and get the save.
Cody Hearne got the start for Foxpro and pitched three innings with two strikeouts and two walks. Former Lewistown Panther great Kalen Gearhart pitched three innings and collected the win as well as a strikeout.
For Spring Mills, Corbin Homan went the first three innings and collected two strikeouts and three walks. Josh Lieb finished off the final three innings and had three strikeouts and two walks.
Kearns led Foxpro at the plate going 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a home run. Triebold and Rylan Bailey also had multi-hit games.
Lose led the Braves at the plate going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Best of luck to both teams as they prepare for the playoffs.
Also a huge shoutout to Mrs. Pupo who provided some incredible cheese fries for me during these two games.
Until Next Time!
