MILROY – They made history!
In a rematch from earlier this week, the Mifflin County 10u All-Stars met up with State College.
This time it was for the District 5 title.
State College, who battled hard through the loser’s bracket to earn a spot in the title tilt while Mifflin County came into the championship contest undefeated, allowing only one run in their three wins.
The night belonged to Mifflin County as they defeated the feisty State College team 11-1 to move on to the next round and also capture Mifflin County’s first ever D5 10U crown since 2019 in the process.
Mifflin County was led by Riley Mellinger’s sizzling night at the plate. The slugger went a perfect 3-for-3 posting 4RBIs and scoring twice.
Teammate Rylee Pully also had a strong night offensively. Pully went 2-for-2 3RBIs and two runs scored.
Others picking up hit for the victors were Lucy Breon and Mia Kuhns.
State College was led by Sid Thomas’ two hit night as she scored the lone run for the Little Lions.
Thomas was also the State College hurler as she picked up six strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings.
Picking up the win for the Mifflin County squad was Pully.
Pully struck out 10 and limited the State College batters only four hits in the process while going the entire contest.
In the first, State College threatened early. After a base hit into shallow right Thomas started things off by stealing second and third.
But Mifflin County left Thomas stranded as they were able to get a close play at first to end the inning.
Mifflin County scored in the first at bats.
Pully led off the MC part of the first with a walk.
With two outs, Alex Deamer joined Pully on base with a walk of her own, keeping the inning alive.
Kuhns brought in both a she roped a 2RBI single, giving her team the lead.
State College was able to later get Kuhns at the plate to end the inning.
Again, State College had its chances as they got Delaney Greenland on base. After a strong single, Greenland made the most of a MIfflin County miscue at first base, as she moved from first to third.
However, the MC defense stood tall and stranded her.
Offensively, the bats came back out in the second.
Mellinger got things started as she hustled out an infield single.
With two outs, Pully brought in Mellinger as she roped an RBI single, upping the lead to 3-0.
Pully later scored on an RBI single from Breon.
The patience at the plate came to the forefront for Mifflin County in the third. With three early walks, Mellinger blasted a shot scoring three and giving the home team a comfortable 7-0 advantage.
State College scored their lone run in the fourth.
But it wouldn’t be enough as MC ended the contest in the bottom of the fourth when they scored their lone run two runs they needed to end the contest and become apart of Mifflin County softball history.
Both teams left everything on the field and it’s safe to say the future for both State College and Mifflin County softball is bright.
