MILROY -In a game that took two days to complete, the Mifflin County 10U softball team came out with a strong opener defeating Penns Valley 10-0.
Mifflin County hurler Rylee Pully had her A-game going in the circle as she refused to allow a hit and struck out 11 batters en route to the victory.
She also had things going from the plate as she finished with a 1-for-2 game scoring three times and finishing with an RBI.
Also picking up hits for the home team was Lorraina Searer (1-for-2 RBI, 2runs), Lucy Breon (1-for-1, 2Runs) and Mia Kuhns (1-for-2 run).
They also had strong patience at the plate, forcing eight walks.
In day one of the contest, the group from MIfflin County opened with a 3-0 advantage after one inning.
The MIfflin County pitcher sent down the Penns Valley squad down 1-2-3 in the top of the first.
Pully led off their part of the first hustling out an infield hit. Breon and Evelyn Renninger followed with walks, loading the bases.
Sydni Stein picked up an RBI on a walk as did Riley Mellinger, upping the home team’s lead to 2-0.
Rounding out the scoring was Breon as she stole home to end the scoring in the inning.
Holding onto a 3-0 advantage, Pully and company once again took care of their opponent in the second striking out 3-of-4 batters she faced in the inning.
Mifflin County added two more runs in the second as Searer and Pully both scored.
With two outs in the top of the third, Pully had already added two more strike outs to start the inning.
With two outs, a flash of lightning lit up the sky, halting the game temporarily. But then the rain came down in droves postponing until Thursday.
Despite being a different day, Mifflin County’s focus continued where it left off.
Pully continued to dominate in the circle while its patient offense did the rest, posting five more runs in two innings to advance in the winner’s bracket.
With the win, the young crew will head to Philipsburg to do battle in the second round.
