Taylor Bumgardner drove in four runs on three hits to lead Penns Valley past Central 9-1 on Monday at Penns Valley Area High School. Bumgardner hit a home run to center field in the third scoring two, singled in the first scoring one, and singled in the fifth scoring one.
Bumgardner struck out 11 batters on the day. The right-handed pitcher also surrendered four hits and one run over seven innings while walking two.
The Lady Rams opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to two singles. Penns Valley first got on the board when Bumgardner singled, scoring one run.
The Lady Rams scored two runs in the bottom of the third on a home run to center field by Bumgardner on a 3-0 count.
Kailyn Gahagan began the game for Central. The righty gave up eight hits and five runs over three innings, striking out one and walking one.
The Lady Rams tallied 14 hits in the game. Bumgardner, Haddley Stover, and Clara Brooks each collected three hits for Penns Valley. Elle Dinges collected two hits for the Lady Rams in four at bats. Penns Valley didn’t commit a single error in the field. Sydnie Dalton had the most chances in the field with 12.
Alexis Fetzer led the Dragons with two hits in three at bats from the leadoff position. Central didn’t commit a single error in the field. Sofie Maldonado had the most chances in the field with eight.
Next up for Penns Valley is a game at Mifflinburg on Tuesday.
