Fourth-Inning Burst Enough To Lead Cumberland Valley Past State College

The Cumberland Valley  Eagles scored nine runs in the fourth inning, which helped them defeat State College  9-2 on Tuesday.

A sacrifice bunt by Elizabeth Sikorski put the State College Little Lions on the board in the top of the third.

The Eagles flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fourth, scoring nine runs on seven hits to take the lead, 9-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a home run to left field by Janelle Schneider that drove in two.

Sydney May earned the win for Cumberland Valley. The starter surrendered five hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out nine and walking one. Addison Harpster took the loss for State College. The starting pitcher went three and two-thirds innings, surrendering six runs on seven hits, striking out eight and walking one.

Jessica Hawbaker, MJ McShea, Harpster, Paige Moriarta, and Kara Rhinehart each collected one hit for the Little Lions. Hawbaker and Sikorski each drove in one run for State College.

The Eagles collected 10 hits in the game. May drove the middle of the lineup, leading Cumberland Valley  with three runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Emma Stroup, Schneider, and May each collected two hits for the Eagles. Cumberland Valley didn’t commit a single error in the field. Sophia Ziegler had the most chances in the field with six.

State College  plays at home on Wednesday against Central Dauphin in their next game.
