The State College Little Lions defeated the Mechanicsburg Wildcats 2-1 on Thursday after taking the lead late in the game. State College was down 1-0 in the top of the fifth inning when Jessica Hawbaker singled, scoring two runs.
Both teams were strong in the circle. The Little Lions pitchers struck out eight, while the Wildcats sat down eight.
A single by Jada Lacey put Mechanicsburg on the board in the bottom of the first.
Addison Harpster earned the win for State College. The righty surrendered two hits and one run (zero earned) over five innings, striking out four and walking three. Lacey took the loss for the Wildcats. The starter went seven innings, surrendering two runs (zero earned) on four hits, striking out eight and walking three. Paige Moriarta tossed two innings of zero-run ball for State College in relief. The pitcher gave up zero hits, striking out four and walking three.
Hawbaker provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led State College with two runs batted in. The shortstop went 2-for-3 on the day.
Lacey and Reagan Condon each collected one hit for Mechanicsburg . Lacey led Mechanicsburg with one run batted in. The pitcher went 1-for-4 on the day. The Wildcats had patience at the plate, collecting six walks for the game.
Next up for State College is a game at Williamsport on Friday.
