The bottom of the lineup helped State College Little Lions capture a 7-4 victory over Mechanicsburg on Thursday. Kellen Williams, Max Herncane, and Rowan Walker combined for four of the team’s eight hits in the victory. They scored two runs and drove in three.
State College got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning after Williams singled to right field, Walker was struck by a pitch, and Michael Powell grounded out, each scoring one run.
Adam Schirf started the game for the Little Lions. The pitcher surrendered five hits and two runs over four and one-third innings, striking out three and walking three. Coleman stepped on the bump first for Mechanicsburg. The hurler surrendered five hits and six runs (four earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking five. Herncane and Landon Bietz each appeared in relief for the Little Lions.
Walker led State College with two runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. Williams, Herncane, and Sebastian Rhoades each collected two hits for State College. Machtinger led the Little Lions with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game.
Nailor led Mechanicsburg with two hits in two at bats from the leadoff position. Mechanicsburg had patience at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game. Nailor and Reider led the team with two walks each. Nailor stole two bases.
State College welcome Mifflin County on Saturday for their next game.
