Big First Inning Leads Mifflin County Junior Varsity Huskies Past Penns Valley Rams

The Mifflin County Junior Varsity Huskies baseball team scored 13 runs in the first inning, which helped them defeat Penns Valley 15-1 on Monday.  Thad Gerwick singled, scoring one run, Gerwick scored after tagging up, Wyatt Parkes singled, scoring two runs, Noah Wolfkiel drew a walk, scoring one run, Kooper Walters drew a walk, scoring one run, Adam Evans induced Gerwick to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored, an error scored two runs, an error scored two runs, Lucas Shawver doubled, scoring one run, and Parkes doubled, scoring one run.

Gatlin Kauffman started the game for the Junior Varsity Huskies. The right-handed pitcher surrendered three hits and one run over five innings, striking out seven and walking two. Evans stepped on the bump first for the Junior Varsity Rams. The starter allowed four hits and 10 runs (six earned) over two-thirds of an inning, striking out none and walking five.

Mifflin County piled up 10 hits in the game. Parkes, the number seven hitter for the Huskies, led the way with three runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Parkes and Jude Zook each collected two hits for Mifflin County. Parkes stole three bases. The Huskies worked the count all day, amassing seven walks. The Huskies ran wild on the base paths, collecting six stolen bases for the game. Mifflin County didn’t commit a single error in the field. Shawver had the most chances in the field with seven.

Kaleb Nixon, Aaron Wolfe, and Sam Karc each collected one hit for Penns Valley. Wolfe stole two bases.

Mifflin County Junior Varsity Huskies will travel to Chambersburg for their next game on Tuesday.
