Reed: Huskies boys lacrosse teams falls to Chambersburg

LEWISTOWN – The Mifflin County boys lacrosse team hosted Chambersburg at home in a Mid-Penn match up.

In the end, the Huskies fell 15-8.

Mifflin County got things going early on two goals from senior Nathan Parkes to give the Huskies an early advantage. It wouldn’t be long until Chambersburg would claw their way back into things as junior attacker Ryan Cosey would give the Trojans its first points of the evening.

Chambersburg would not be done yet as there would be another goal would be on the horizon for the Trojans. The goal would come from Blake Dupont from the same position, the attacker position, that would even the score 2-2. The goal would be assisted by midfielder Quinn Makosy with 8:35 to go in the opening quarter.

Mifflin County would strike again to break the tie as Kaden Miller would find the net. Mifflin County would lead 3-2 with 6:56 remaining to play in the first stanza.

Mifflin County’s Brett Rogers would call a timeout to regroup after five points scored between the two teams were already scored both teams would regroup.

It would take four minutes until it would be evened up at 3-3 on a tying goal from Matt Tucker assisted by Makosy with  2:56 to go in the opening frame.

Both teams would return to the circle and a costly offsides penalty would be called on junior Trey Smith. The ball would go to the Trojans as the turnover would prove costly for MIfflin County.

Chambersburg would take advantage and score from another goal from Tucker assisted by Makosy to give the Trojans a 4-3 advantage. Chambersburg would lead Mifflin County 4-3 after the first quarter.

Both teams would enter the second feeling confident on the offensive side after seven points between the two teams were put on the board.

Cosey would get two open looks before he would eventually find the net to extend the Trojans lead to two 5-3. Makosy and Cosey would both score again to break the game open to a 7-3 Chambersburg would call a timeout with 29.5 to go in the first half.

Chambersburg would lead MIfflin County 7-3 into intermission.

“After these kinds of games you want to keep the kids heads positive to know hey you were so close when you come down in the third period you score a couple extra goals,” said Mifflin County Coach Brett Rogers. “Those are things that you just want to do earlier in the game but the kids don’t give up. They are going to fight to the very end the last tick of the clock that’s all I can ask for.”

Mifflin County was led by Dodger Weaver in the second half scoring three goals also helping the Huskies in assisting goals Parkes had himself a day scoring four of MIfflin County’s eight goals on the evening.

MIfflin County would make things interesting on combined scoring from Weaver and Parkes.  But the Trojans would make a late surge adding onto the scoring exploding for 15 points to route the Huskies for their second win of the season extending it’s win streak to two games meanwhile MIfflin County

falls to 0-4 on the season they would face Cedar Cliff on Thursday.

Next for Chambersburg  will be a talented State College team on Thursday.
