WINGATE – Adding to their legacy.
Two of the winningest players to come out of the Bald Eagle Area football team will be playing as future teammates as they both set their sights on taking their game to the next level.
What a duo they were.
Wednesday, Quarterback Carson Nagle and Linebacker Wyatt Spackman were the front and center at their respective school to have their official signing day ceremonies as they signed their letter of intent in front of friends, family and media.
“As ninth graders both played major roles right away,” said Bald Eagle Area coach Jesse Nagle.
During their distinquished careers both share some team records.
Both were apart of winning the most games in a season and for their career with 34. They both won a district championship. During their play they were ranked number two in the state They played in the most postseason games in their career. They were on four teams that all had winning records.
The two Bald Eagles will be just two of the 24 fresh faces that will grace the Lock Haven football squad this season.
Spackman was first to take the podium.
Spackman played linebacker and was voted first team linebacker and honorable mention for the tight end position in the LHAC East All-Conference team.
The All-team linebacker talked about why he picked Lock Haven to sign on with.
“One of the the major things was the coaching staff and how much trust and respect they had for me,” said Spackman. “There were some other colleges but they’re the ones that wanted and believed in me the most. I thought an important aspect is they are the ones that are going to develop me into the best possible man I can be.”
Spackman also reflected on his time as a member at Bald Eagle Area.
“My football career started off when I was five playing flag football and has continued all the way up to now, my senior year,” said Spackman. “Footballs kind of been a big part of my everyday life and playing football has always been a dream of mine. It’s brought about many different memories, things that I’ll never forget and always cherish. It’s also taught me many life lessons. I’m very grateful of what football has done for me and what it will help do in the future.”
Spackman has some good advice for players that are just starting their careers off.
“Trust the process. Sometimes things take a little bit of work until you see results,” said Spackman. “Most importantly you have to put the work in if you want to see results. Be confident with yourself. Have some fun while doing it as well.”
Nagle, who has set many individual records local and beyond, sat down and took his turn on the stage.
The veteran Quarterback finished his career with 10,608 passing yards which made him 1st in Centre County and in the top 5 in the state. He also led Centre County quarterbacks with a top finish in career passing touchdowns with 105 also earning him a top 10 finish in the state.
He also holds school records in the same categories plus he led his school in all purpose yards.
“This has been a crazy year. It’s been stressful. I had to narrow down from a lot of schools. I had to pick where I was the most comfortable and I picked Lock Haven,” said Nagle. That’s where I want to be.”
Looking back at his high school career that phenomenal QB reflected about his time on the field for Bald Eagle Area.
“It’s been a blurr. It feels like two days ago or yesterday maybe that I just got my first start against Troy,” said Nagle. “It’s been stressful. Obviously, it’s stressful. You are playing the hardest position in football. But with good players and good coaches around me I was able to have the career that I had. I couldn’t even imagine. Ive been blessed not to have any injuries and I hope that carries into college.”
Nagle’s mindset for selecting Lock Haven is one of looking positive heading into his first season.
“I think for me is, nobody really knows how tough the PSAC really is,” said Nagle. “ If you look at some of the schools that offered me, I don’t mean to bash the schools for Lock Haven but that’s just how it is. The PSAC is the best DII in the country and I want to play against the best players at the DII level.”
Nagle also had some words of wisdom for the younger players that will be starting their journey up the ladder.
“You have to show up everyday and you have to work,” said Nagle. “This isn’t an easy sport with the physical and mental aspects. You have to show up everyday and be better than everybody else in front of you. So you have to show up and put everything you have put everything you got into this.”
Both will start their careers next season. Good luck to both on the future football careers.
