Five Juniata High School Distance Track Athletes Compete in Two Indoor Track Meets over the Weekend

Juniata’s Wyatt Stroup, Joey Bomberger, and Sylvia Brubaker competed in the Kevin Dare Indoor Track & Field Invitational on Saturday, January 11th at Penn State University.  In the first race for the Indian’s was sophomore Sylvia Brubaker competing in the girls mile race.  Sylvia placed 16th out of 57 in the event with a time of 5:34.01.  The winner of the girls mile was Upper Dublin’s Faith Castronuovo running a time of 5:11.42.  Next up for the Indian’s was Senior Joey Bomberger in the boys mile race.  Joe ran a 4:39.76 to placed 9th out of 67 runners.  Haverford’s Teddy Foster won the event in a time of 4:26.48.  Finishing out the day for the Indian’s was senior Wyatt Stroup competing in the 3k race.  Wyatt placed 5th out of 53 in the event with a time of 9:03.43.  Jackson Warfel from Pennridge won the event with a time of 8:44.84.  Juniata Distance Coach Jeff Miller said “This was our first indoor track meet this season so it was a good test to see where our current fitness is at.  Sylvia, Joey, and Wyatt all ran indoor personal best in their race.  For Joey, it was his first indoor track meet ever and he had a great experience.  Wyatt ran tough as usual.  Sylvia had a good race and learned some things to help her in future races.”
On Sunday, January 12th, freshman Josiah Barner and sophomore Joel Hardin competed in the River Hawk High School Invitational at Susquehanna University.   Josiah ran a 5:25.16 in the boys mile to place 27 out of 37 runners in the event.  Joel ran a 5:51.29 in the boys mile to place 33rd in the same event.  Sam Hennett from Shikellamy won the event with a time of 4:42.39.  Josiah also competed in the boys 400 shortly after his mile race.  He ran a time of 58.74 to place 22nd out of 36 runners.  Draelyn Crawford from Cedar Cliff won the event with a time of 51.31.  Juniata Distance Coach Jeff Miller said “I thought Josiah and Joel ran very good for their first races of the season.  This was Josiah’s first high school indoor track meet.  They learned some things that will help them when they step on the track again next week.”
Juniata will compete again on Wednesday, January 15th at Penn State and Sunday, January 19th at Susquehanna University.
