Raiders go 2-2 in dual meets at Ursinus College

The Shippensburg University wrestling team returned to action following the winter break by splitting four dual meets in jam packed Saturday of wrestling at the Manganaro Duals hosted by Ursinus College.

Shippensburg (5-6) picked up wins over Southern Maine, 25-20, and New England College, 30-24. Loses came to Trinity College, 25-18, and Rhode Island College, 34-13.

Both Raider victories came in come from behind fashion, as SU’s middle and upper weights erased a 17-0 deficit against Southern Maine and a 24-3 shortfall against New England.

Junior Kyler Everly (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County) went 3-0 wrestling at 165 pounds, earning bonus points in two of his victories.

Redshirt-sophomore Mike Trainor (Cochranville, Pa./Octorara), junior Trey Shoemaker (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County), junior Owen Koch (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) and sophomore Diesel Koser (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg Area) went 3-1 on the day.

Shoemaker and Koser earned pins in all three of their wins at 174 pounds and 197 pounds, respectively, giving each a team-best seven pins on the season.

Junior Anthony Lavish (Fairless Hills, Pa./Conwell Egan) racked up a key 20-11 major decision over 157-pound wrestler Silas Runez in SU’s dual meet win over Southern Maine, while sophomore 133-pounder AJ Stayton (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) picked up a pin over Rhode Island College’s Kwesi Amoa.

Senior heavyweight Connor Livingston (Westminster, Md./Manchester Valley) registered a forfeit win in SU’s dual meet victory over New England College.

Up next, the Raiders return to Heiges Field House for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) dual versus Seton Hill Tuesday at 7 p.m.
