Reed: Penn State fans get ready for trip to Florida; PSU drops Boise State to move into the final four

Penn State and their fans can now book their flights and hotels to Florida the Nittany Lions will face the winner of the Georgia Notre Dame game in tomorrow’s Sugar Bowl as they defeated number 3 seed Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl Tuesday evening.

Boise State received the opening kickoff Penn State Gabriel Nwosu kicked it into the back of the endzone for a touchback to begin the game.

The Broncos came up empty on their opening drive. Boise leaned on the run game as they ran the ball four times giving it to Broncos star Ashton Jeanty. Jeanty caught two of the four times also in the contest. Boise State eventually came up empty as they came up way short on a 45-yard field goal try from Jonah Dalmas, keep the scoreless with 10:41 to go in the first quarter.

Penn State had strong showing with the one-two punch in the run game. Both Kaytron Allen Nick Singleton had great games.

Allen rushed for 134 yards on 17 carries while Singleton totaled 87 yards on 12 carries. Allen scored on  a touchdown which would be the final touchdown of the game putting the icing on the cake for the Blue and White.

Boise State had turnover trouble.

Jeanty found himself on the wrong side fumbling the ball. However the Broncos would get the ball right back on a Drew Allar fumble.

Despite the early fumble, Allar threw for 171 yards completing 13/25 throwing three touchdowns. Two of those touchdowns were to Tyler Warren. The other one was to Omari Evans on a 38-yard score to give the Lions a 14-0 advantage.

The Turnovers hampered Boise State with four turnovers on two missed field goals. The Broncos really hurt themselves in many ways.

The Nittany Lions will have to clean up the penalties. Penn State had ten penalties for 98 yards. The Nits just turned the ball over once on an Allar Fumble earlier in the game.

Boise State had more total yards than the Lions with 412. Penn State had 387. The Nittany Lions went 5-13 on third down efficiency while the Broncos were 8-16 in third down efficiency while going 0-1 on fourth down.

Penn State was just better in the run game and it really showed in Tuesday’s night win averaging 5.3 yards per rush attempt while Boise State only averaged 2.7.

Boise State got score from Tyler Crowe while the other score came as a gift on a busted coverage play on a 53-yard score from Matt Lauter. He would be the leader in reception tonight totaling 96 yards on four catches.

Penn State played well on defense Zion Tracy, Zakee Wheatley and Tyrece Mills had interceptions in the Nittany Lions 31-14 victory.

The Broncos did get to Allar on many occasions. Alexander Teubner and Ahmed Hassanien got to the Nittany Lions quarterback. Amin Vanover, Zane Durant and Dani Dennis Sutton all made impacts in the dominant win over Boise State.
