LEWISTOWN – The Lady Huskies welcomed in the Red Land Lady Patriots in front of the home crowd for the first time this season. MIfflin County led from the beginning on and never looked back, beating the Patriots 48-30.
Mifflin County was led by sophomore guard Jayda Kanagy totaling 14 points. It was an all team effort for the Lady Huskies with good performances from all around.
“The kids played extremely well tonight on the defensive end. Anytime you give up thirty points in a highschool basketball game you are going to have a pretty good opportunity to get a win,” said Coach Aaron Gingrich. “We switched up our defense tonight and really did a nice job pressuring their better players and in contrast to our game we only gave up five offensive rebounds tonight so all of our players our forwards and our guards were committed to defensive play.”
“We shot the ball well early and that’s important for a younger and in experienced team to get some of that confidence in them in their first home game. I knew some of the girls were a little nervous because it was there first home game of the season. We fought through them nerves and think played hard the entire game. Everybody played equal minutes because we are on the road at Lewisburg in less than 24 hours.”
Huskies sophomore guard Peyton Weaver started off sizzling and continued to stay strong knocking down two first quarter three pointers. Weaver would have three three pointers on the night totaling 11 points on the night.
Red Land shot the ball well tonight despite falling to “Purple and White”. Senior Mikayla Teates hit two three’s on the night to go along with a two pointer totaling eight points on the night while her teammate Lily Strawser matched points totaling eight on Friday night.
The turnovers really hurt the Lady Patriots having too many to overcome resulting in a defeat.
Mifflin County had no trouble working the three ball to their advantage. Ava Baker,Jalee Bodtorf,Maelyn Gingrich and Weaver all had the three ball working for them.
Mifflin County was strong of defense Gingrich,Baker,and Mackenzie Peachey all had steals in the game.
Mifflin County shot very well from the foul line tonight really making the Lady Patriots miscues prove costly.
Mifflin County really made Red Land work hard for everything. The Patriots tried to attempt a comeback but ultimately coming up short.
“We all contributed together and all worked hard together,” said Jayda Kanagy. “It’s been a rough start to the season it shows that we can work together and play well defensively.”
The Lady Huskies will travel to Lewisburg Saturday Mifflin County looking to even up their record.
