By Don Reed LEWISTOWN- The Mifflin County Huskies hosted The Redland Patriots on senior night at Mitchell Field for the final time, coming out with a nail biting 21-18 victory.
Mifflin County opened the first drive with points scoring on a 10-play drive. Senior Josh Maldonado would find the endzone.
Mifflin County quarterback Chase Hartung found Avery Aurand for a big play that helped the Huskies drive down the field for an opportunity to score.
The Huskies found the end zone the second time on a 1-yard score from Hartung to extend Mifflin County’s lead to
14-0 with just six seconds into the second quarter.
Huskies linebacker Gavin Herrington and Reese Christine both played well in the first half.
The Patriots scored right before halftime. Quarterback Quinlin Shearer found Anthony Shay from 7-yards out.
Mifflin County’s Fletcher Wilson would block the extra point to make it 14-6.
Redland had a solid rushing attack right before the half from Brady Seyler. Things really heated up in the second half.
The Huskies and Patriots resumed following halftime and it took only a few plays for Redland would find themselves back in the end zone. A one-yard score would cut into the lead 14-12.
However, the two point conversion would be unsuccessful. Aurand would sack Shearer.
Mifflin County’s next drive would come up empty. Jack Owen sacked Wilson at Mifflin County’s own 40 yard line.
It would be 14-12 after three quarters as they would head into the fourth quarter for the final time at Mitchell Field.
Redland handed the ball off to Seyler for a 9-yard run as the Patriots would take the lead 18-14 with 4:20 left in the game.
The Dawgs wouldn’t be done. Wilson would have one more shot on fourth down as he found Cyrell Green from Mifflin County’s own 39 for a go ahead score. Redland would have one more chance the Patriots self inflicted penalties would haunt them Shearer would be picked off by Green.
Mifflin County would get in victory formation with Wilson under center to beat Redland 21-18 at home on Senior night.
