REEDSVILLE- The Mifflin County Huskies Cross County Boys and Girls teams hosted a dual meet between Juniata and Williamsport on Senior night  in a meet where the Huskies boys found themselves victorious. Juniata finished second and Williamsport third.

“Today was kind of our last real hard workout before we start backing off so it was a really solid effort from more of a workout day. The fact that they ran times that they did today shows that they were peeking at the right time so I’m just keeping everyone healthy until districts. Everyone,” said Mifflin County coach Alex Monroe.

Carter Smith led the way for Mifflin County winning the race with a 16:08. It was an all out great effort for Mifflin County. Wyatt Kauffman was the second Husky to grab points finishing in fourth place crossing the line with a 16:47. Hart Oden placed 6th place Mifflin County had five total runners place in the top 10 Aidan Scavitti placed 8th while Koy Aurand placed 9th.

“This gives me another race on this course to prepare me for districts. It was basically just a workout for me, another workout in the books,” said Carter Smith. “It was a good day. I hope our team did well to be honest.”

It was another great race for Indians star runner Wyatt Stroup. Stroup finished runner up behind Smith crossing the line at 16:17. Joey Bumberger placed third in a strong race with a time of 16:33.Juniata had a solid showing from Wesley Ehrisman as well.

“Today it was about helping my teammates get personal bests I didn’t look at the times yet but that’s what i did in the first mile the next two miles,” said Wyatt Stroup. “ I was trying to feel out race pace to what my goal pace would be. I think using today as like knowing where my 800 to go and my 400 and 1k to go, all those like to go in the last few in my race will probably help me get to a better PR. That’s why I used the last two miles of today’s race to do. I was making sure to know what feel and when to kick with 1k, 800 and 400 and how much distance to cover. I know the distance is 800 meters but it’s easier to see like what is 800 meters and to think just kick at 800 its easier to say i’ll go at 800 then when your in the race its much harder to go on your out kick.”

The Girls competed well too Williamsport came out victorious. It all started with Juniata runner Sylvia Brubaker leading the way for the Indians with a time off 18:32. The Millionaires rode behind Madeline Sanders running a 20:00. Clara Wade followed her teammate placing third. Amilia Coffey had a mile to go as she passed three runners that she needed to pass to finish fourth, running a 21:30. Mifflin County was also powered by Ava Wagner and Ava Kratzer placing 8th and 9th. Wagner placed eighth Kratzer ninth. Mifflin County would place third in the meet.

“I have been having a little bit of a rough season but now it’s like I can compete with everybody I’m there,” said Sylvia Brubaker. “There was a girl that I will be facing against this year that is pretty tough to beat but this gives me confidence at districts. I can do it.”

Mifflin County coach Neil Breneman talked about his team’s performance Thursday.

“I think the girls today really got to see how strong they really are. Mia did what she needed to do,” said Breneman. She needed to bump up a couple of places to salvage a win and she did it. She needed to pass one and she passed two of them and some from the other team as well.  Today was a good confidence booster that they are stronger than they think. We had personal best and season best its a good place to go into districts.”
