Mifflin County XC Boys take runner up honors at Wild Safari Invitational in New Jersey (Varsity A)
Sep 29, 2024

Saturday, the MIfflin County boys cross country team added another accomplishment to its already impressive season as they finished as runners up at the Wild Safari Invitational in New Jersey.

Running in the Varsity A Division, Husky runner Carter Smith won first place with a top time of 15:31.

Teammate Wyatt Kauffman’s 16:29 was good enough to capture 15th.

Reese Cubbison topped out a 16:48 good enough for a 26th place finish.

In 34th place, Aidan Scavitti finished his day with a finishing time of 17:10.

Two places later at 36, teammate Koy Aurand finished with a time of 17:11.

At 63rd, Hart Oden  topped out at 17:46.

Rounding out the MIfflin County runners at 85 was Styers Oden with an 18:15 mark.

“So close! Our varsity boys were on the outside looking in, but not by much (missing the team title by 12 points). It was true cross country today and that is where our team shines the most,” said Mifflin County coach Alex Monroe. “What is most impressive to me is the number of PRs we had given the stormy conditions. The team primarily trained through this race to prepare for next week’s Paul Short Invitational, and today showed they were further along than I thought. Placing 2nd out of 27 teams with 6 different states represented is a really solid day. They also handled the travel and lack of comfort zone well.”

On the JV side, Hoyt Rodenbaugh took first for the Huskies with a top time of 17:15.

Finishing in 16the place was Michael McNitt with a time of 18:20.

Logan Breneman was next at 52nd, finishing with a mark of 19:13.

Coming in at 54th place was Camryn Treaster with a 19:14.

David Snyder finished 61st with a 19:28.

Placing 144th, Alex Horn posted a 21:28 while teammate Anthony Palopoli finished in 60th at 21:47.

Colton Leister finished the day with a time of 22:44.

Mifflin County returns to competition Wednesday in Altoona.
