MIFFLINTOWN – Taking care of business.
Playing their second game in as many days, the Juniata softball team welcomed a very tough Penns Valley team to do battle in a non-league affair.
The Lady Indians had a total team effort on the afternoon outlasting the Lady Rams in a 7-5 contest.
It was done in dramatic fashion as Regan Lowrey roped a walk-off extra inning home run to give Juniata the clutch victory.
With the game knotted at five going into their last at bats in the 11th, Lowery ended the contest with the 2-run blast.
Lowrey went 3-for-6 on the day.
Picking up the win for Juniata was pitching phenom Liz Gaisior. Gaisior went the distance as she struck out 18 batters allowing nine hits and four earned runs on the night.
Early on in the contest, the Indians scored first Shalelyn Armstrong got things going on a single and a two base error, landing her at third.
Cheyenne Kirk bounced into a fielders choice scoring Armstrong on the play, making it a 1-0 contest.
Penns Valley rallied back for two in the top of the third.
Clara Brooks opened the inning with a bunt single.
Scotty Dinges follows with a walk.
Avery Dinges doubled both teammates in giving the Lady Rams the 2-1 advantage.
In the bottom of the inning, the Indians tied the contest.
Lowrey started things off reaching on an error. She moved up to second on a single by Gaisior.
Sara Marshall singled in Lowrey for the tie.
Both defenses took over as the game went into the 10th inning tied at two.
But in the 10th, Penns Valley struck first plating three runs.
With teammate Scotty Dinges and Noelle Webb on base, the Rams cleared the bases on a Taylor Bumgardner 3-run home run.
Juniata refused to lose as they went into their part of the 10th.
Lowrey is placed on second and her time on base would be short lived when Gaisior hit an RBI single, cutting the RNs lead to 5-3. Gaisior is replaced on the base paths by courtesy runner Ashley Piper. Piper moved up to second on a wild pitch.
She later scored on an error after a Marshall single, cutting it to a 5-4 ball game.
Marshall scored to tie things at five. She scored on an Armstrong single, setting the stage for the 11th inning heroics by Lowrey.
With the win, Juniata improves to 12-1 on season.
