Juniata 49, Newport 23
MIFFLINTOWN – Crown them the champs!
The Juniata Indians’ wrestling team had their eyes on the prize when they went into their Tri-Valley contest with Newport.
“Big Red” was up for the challenge as they defeated the Buffaloes 49-23.
Juniata posted six pins in the victory.
Things started out strong for the Indians at 114. Joey Bomberger pinned Micheal Cleaver in a third period win at 5:21.
The pins continued at 121 when the Indians’ Colton Rowles pinned Aiden Crockett at 3:41.
Ryder Smith took care of Newport’s Evan Rice in the 127-pound weight class by a 2-0 decision.
133-pounder Casey Smith won by a 20-9 major decision over Lane Wright.
Adding to their pin list, 139-pound Taylor Smith was able to get Noah Bryner’s shoulder’s down by Fall at 2:51.
160-pounder Wesley Woodward continued the Juniata streak pinning Cainan at 3:41.
Harrison Mummah took 172 with a pin over Kaj Miller at 4:17.
At 189, Kelton Bonnell pinned Newport’s Perry Wright at 3:48.
Rounding out the wins for Juniata at 215. Lane Peiper pinned Donovan McGuire at 1:13.
