Mifflin County Boys’ Cross Country faced Altoona in a non-league meet Tuesday afternoon. The Huskies came up short falling to the Mt Lions 21-38. Ryan Webster from Altoona captured first in 17:51 with MC’s Conrad Coffey finishing a close second in 17:53.  Caden Bell was 5th (18:21), Styers Oden 8th (18:37), Reese Cubbison 11th (18:51), Luke Breneman 13th (19:10)Cody Fultz 15th (20:04), Hart Oden 16th 20:05, Maxwell Laudermilch 17th 20:19, Nathan Goss 20, (26:40).

“Two weeks ago at the Carlisle Invitational we had closed the gap from the Big Valley Invitational to two points. We were hoping to give Altoona a battle today. We had some bright spots but not enough to turn things around,” said Gregory Loht. “Conrad lead most of the second half of the race but  got out kicked at the finish. Caden is starting to return to form after a challenging September. Styers is looking better in every race. Reese finished fourth for us and had a big pr on the day. Luke continues to anchor our final scoring position ran a solid race.”

In boys’ middle school action the Huskies fell short 26-29 against host Altoona. S. Lieb of Altoona (8:33), took first with MC’s Wyatt Kauffman a step behind in second in 8:34. Both runners missing the 2495 meter course record of 8:32.  MC finishers were Koy Aurand 4th (9:10), Aidan Scavitti 5th (9:13), Camryn Treaster 9th (9:31), Logan Breneman 14th ((9:43), Hoyt Rosenbaugh 15 (9:45), Anthony Palopoli 17th (10:03), Colton Leister 22nd (10:50), Justin Cox 25th (11:10).  

“Our Middle School boys went right after Altoona. The race was tight as the early scorers finished but Altoona’s depth was a little to much to overcome,” said Loht. “We have a nice middle school team which was very competitive today. They are exciting to watch. I’m proud of their effort.”
